Lorenzo Richelmy ha accettato la parte: interpreterà Marco in LARPers - to protect and play.

Come dire: “Finora, caro Giulio, hai giocato.

Umberto Francia, regista e co-sceneggiatore di LARPers - to protect and play

Ah sì, l’intervista. Bene.
Facile, no? Cosa ci vuole a fare un’intervista?

Ecco.

Lorenzo Richelmy accepted the role: he will play Marco in LARPers - to protect and play.

As to say: “So far, Giulio, you merely played. Now you gotta get serious”.

Well of course, when they tell you someone read what you wrote and that someone found it interesting and unexpectedly he decided to give his voice, his face and his body to a character you invented, you suddenly perceive that you are to take a great amount of responsability.

I’ve always had a great respect for the profession of actor and knowing that someone who decided to make that profession his life, that he took the decision to believe in what me and Umberto wrote, it just terrified me..
It was the first moment when I realized LARPers was going to happen.
I wanted to meet that bold man, and so I decided that the daily post would have featured a brief interview about Lorenzo, our Marco in LARPers.

“Lorenzo is truly a capable and generous actor. He never spares himself, he’s always the first to give all of himself. I had the luck of working along with him and watching him in action on the set. He immediatly understands character’s intentions and he bears the right balance of creative collaboration and trust in the director when he works on a character. As already shown in the “I liceali” he is credible and empathic; in the past years he trained at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and he experienced many television and cinema episodes, apart from the webseries “Kubrick - una storia porno” and “Le cose brutte” of my friend (and also LARPers’) Ludovico Bessegato. I’m looking forward to watch him at the cinema as the main character in the movie “La terra e il vento” by Sebastian Maulucci. And then of course, playing our Marco too!”

Umberto Francia , director and co-screenplayer of LARPers - to protect and play

Right, the interview. Fine.
Easy, isn’t it? What does it take to make an interview?

Well.
To give you the idea of how much lazyness I performed in approaching the task, I watched many of the episodes of “Inside the Actors’ Studio”, then I looked for tutorials on YouTube concering how to make an interview and _of course_ I studied Lorenzo’s biography along with some web’s research, almost if it was me the Interpol agent and not him.
I took two long breaths and armed with pen and notebook, I dialed the number.

As the phone was ringing I couldn’t stop thinking “What the **** am I supposed to tell him? He’s gonna take me for an a******. Me, making interviews...”

“Hello?”

“Lorenzo? Uhm, hi I’m Giulio of LARPers, Umberto’s friend.”

At this point a clarification is mandatory: Lorenzo is a very kind guy.

All of my appropriateness sensation around my role of reporter vanished after the first minute of the call, I wasn’t pay attention anymore to the brower’s windows I had in front of me neither the notes I was writing: we started chatting about LARPers project and how it ended to cross his life, and soon enough the questions I prepared found their answers. For the sake of appearance I will report them according to the standards of blog-interview.

Giulio: How were you involved in LARPers project?
Lorenzo: It was Umberto (I knew it! ed.). We met some years ago on the set of Alessandro Guida’s movie where Umberto was co-director. We become friends and around a year and half ago he talked to me about this project, keeping me up to date about the production’s ongoings. And then, some time ago, he came back to tell me about this thing, and he also offered me the part of Marco

G: Did you know already about live action role-playing before you got to know about the project?
L: Yeah, I heard about it before, perhaps by a picture on Facebook or maybe due to friends’ tales. But I didn’t know it was something with such an accurate structure. And I found it brilliant. Playing must always be a serious thing. I know it could sound like a set phrase, but it’s something I really believe in; if when children, while playing tag, someone complained about the game, it was awful, unacceptable. Live action role-playing is exactly this thing: the focus, the seriousness applied to the game. That is the best way to play.

G: What was your first reaction after you read the script?
L: I found it very funny. While I was reading the evolution of the plot throughout the episodes it came to my mind The Big Bang Theory, and soon I realized that we will have had lot of fun realizing this project.

G: One of LARPers’ subject is that “there’s got to be a nerd inside each one of us”. What is this nerd inside of you?
L: Videogames for sure. I call myself a classicist of videogames. When I travel by train I never refuse a Civilization match. I admit to be a serious videogamer, and beware. I do fancy also board games. Consider that I always have a Risiko! inside the car, because Risiko! is fantastic, it saves the day! Thus yeah, there’s a little nerd inside of me as well.

I’m saying it again, this brief interview was actually a little chat of half an hour in which I made the acquintance of Lorenzo. Although I’ve already done that many times on the phone, I’d like to thank him officially for accepting to contribute to the project, and for being so kind to endure the artificiality of my first journalism experience.

If in the beginning the idea of LARPers coming to life scared me, after this call my trust in the cause has been renewed. To work along with true professionists who are able to calm you down is truly a luck. LARPers’ ship set sail with a new, brilliant member onboard.

And now, willing or not, you must follow us ‘till the end of the adventure.
Untill next, and of course, remember...

To protect and play!
